Pellissippi State Community College Becomes Smart Trips Sponsor

Local community college, Pellissippi State, has an excellent reputation. Professors, advisors, and administrators are known for their hands-on mentorship of each student enrolled. Smart Trips staff say this dynamic is evident on campus.

“The first time I was invited to speak at their orientation, it was clear they’re more like a family than a school,” says Outreach Coordinator Sara Martin. “I’ve since visited three of their campuses and it’s the same across the board – Pellissippi State takes care of their students.”

In February, the school increased student support even more by becoming a gold level Smart Trips sponsor. In addition to free benefits such as gift card contests and emergency ride home vouchers, PSCC will now enjoy custom blog and newsletter articles, promotion on the Smart Trips website and newsletter, cooperative advertisements in local media, help achieving a national clean commute designation, event sponsorships, catered educational sessions, and regular reports showing their emissions prevented, dollars saved, and calories burned.

The partnership fits right in with PSCC’s Sustainable Campus Initiative.

“At Pellissippi State, sustainability is twofold,” says Student Activities and Orientation Coordinator Alison Fox. “It’s important that our campuses be as green as possible, and we have a duty to prepare our students for sustainability-related careers. Transportation is a big part of the sustainability equation.”

Due to its multiple campuses, PSCC has complex transportation needs. Two campuses are in urban areas with limited parking and access to bus lines and greenways. The others have plenty of parking, but are only accessible by car. Smart Trips staff are looking forward to the opportunity to address each unique situation with a custom, clean-commute plan.
